Large Ornate Cornice coving repairs at Royal Hotel Scarborough
At Swart Plaster Mouldings, we were proud to be commissioned for a significant cornice coving restoration project at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. This historic venue, which overlooks the stunning Scarborough beachfront, features a grand interior with ceilings reaching 4.7 metres in height—ideal for weddings and special events.
The ornate plaster cornice had suffered severe damage due to water ingress from above. Our team assessed the affected areas, carefully removed the damaged sections, and salvaged the intricate enrichments to recreate them in our workshop using traditional methods.
Scarborough Plaster Repair Process:
• Protected undamaged areas with temporary boarding
• Removed and cleaned original floral enrichments
• Reproduced patterns using custom-made rubber moulds
• Seamlessly blended new plasterwork into the existing cornice
• Final results painted and restored to their former glory
This project exemplifies our dedication to heritage plaster restoration and traditional craftsmanship. From the workshop to the final installation, every step was carefully executed to maintain the authenticity of this historic site.
